Genitrix's mission is to "Advance veterinary care with ethical and innovative solutions to animal health". With this in mind they have helped develop Dentagen - a novel approach to dental plaque inhibition. It contains RF2, a natural anti-plaque compound that prevents oral bacteria from producing plaque.
Formation of dental biofilm begins with the attachment of free-floating (planktonic) microorganisms to the surface of the teeth. This facilitates the arrival of other bacteria to build the matrix that holds the biofilm together. Once colonisation has begun, the biofilm grows through a combination of cell division and recruitment to provide an encapsulated micro-colony of cells.
RF2 is a plant extract which was found to modify the membrane of oral bacteria and prevents them from producing plaque. Testing, both in "mouth models" and in randomised, blinded trials (conducted to Veterinary Oral Health Council standards measuring Whole Mouth Mean scores) showed that RF2 produced excellent inhibition of biofilm.
Dentagen Wax
Dentagen wax is applied to teeth immediately after a scale and polish procedure. It is supplied as individual syringes ensuring hygienic safe application. Dentagen Wax is suitable for cats, dogs and rabbits after dental treatment.
Dentagen Toothpaste
Dentagen Toothpaste is designed for use both after a dental procedure and for preventative treatment. It contains RF2 and is supplied with a small finger brush to help pets get accustomed to toothbrushing. The ideal tool is always a toothbrush (such as the Petosan Silentpower) to clean the area below the gum line.
Dentagen Aqua
Dentagen Aqua is a palatable water additive which contains RF2 to help prevent bad breath and control plaque build up. Pets seem to like the taste and carry on drinking as normal, but always offer fresh water as well. When used in drinking fountains you do need to replace the water more frequently.
Dentagen Chews
Dentagen Chews contain RF2 and are designed to be fed every other day to maintain the protective levels for plaque prevention. They are supplied as a month's pack - separate sizes for dogs under or over 8 Kg.
